Electric trench and insulation

trench    meter box

Greeting us today was some 120+ feet of utility trench with a looong length of fancy gray conduit running the whole length from the box at the road up to the meter box on the house.

The theme colour of the day indoors was cotton candy pink.

Here is the shower in the master bath. Two shower heads now!

These are the water lines for the floor mounted tub filler.

master bedroom insulation

The west-facing wall in the master bedroom, complete with pink panthers.

walk though walls We will not be able to walk through walls for much longer. Considering the abundance of poltergeist trip wires we probably shouldn’t anyway.

This photo was taken while standing in the master bedroom looking east.

cadens room insulation

This is C’s exterior corner (NE) I thought it showed the wall insulation meeting the inner roof baffles pretty well. The ceiling insulation will be blown in, and this dark plastic material will make sure there is still room for air to circulate between the insulation and the roof sheathing.  The air channels allow fresh outdoor air to enter through the soffits and hopefully help with air moisture removal as it makes its way up, as air rises when it gets warmed up, and out the ridge vents.

I found a graphic from the US Department of Energy’s website, to show what I’m trying to say.
It even has arrows. Very educational. te332_allotherceilings5_pnnl_6-28-12

hose bib

We found a hose bib by the garage door. I foresee some Bruce grooming happening on the driveway using it.

outdoor camera

This is a picture of a small coil of blue wire. See it? Just a little bit off center diagonally to the upper left corner.
That’s where one of the outdoor cameras will go. Enter our yard and we WILL spy on you 😉

Electrical walk through

Today we met Mike-the-Builder and Steve-the-Electrician, not to be confused with cabinet maker Steve, who also showed up to measure in place for the cabinets.

He and Mike are, by the way, very patient men. Something that was very noticeable when I started fretting over the placement of the dishwasher in regards to the flatware storage in the island. Seeing it laid out on the sub floor put things in perspective. kitchen

Steve-the-Cabinet-maker shrunk some cabinets down and got the dishwasher moved over 2 feet closer to the island, and I think it will work now. I hope it will work now.

Back to electric because electrical rough-in starts tomorrow!
We went though the house room by room, discussing light patterns, outlets and TV placements and generally working through our check list of tech toy needs. The media closet circuit(s), stair lights (under hand rail LEDs) Christmas lights and landscape lighting were also covered.

master bath
The bedrooms, office and great room will all have ceiling fans, because Ohio summers.
The kitchen will have LED lighting in the front under the cabinets, throwing light on the counter and back splash.

We’re going with basic mushroom lights in the closets, laundry and pantry. Sconces in master bath, chandeliers in entry, powder, master bath, formal dining and casual dining. Some kind of hanging light fixture in the garage entry as well. Can lights in the rec room downstairs and through the main corridor upstairs as well as in the kitchen and great room.

I have a few exciting photos of the spray paint and sharpie marks on the framing, but mostly various other pictures from today:

At noon this is how the sun hits the front of the house.

Garage floor being inspected, floor drains are in place and so is the trim around the garage doors.garage side

Front porch. I imagine a porch swing on the other side of the dining room window sometime in the future.front door

The front door with side lites and visualize the transom above that didn’t make the frame.

It really is a very dark brown, not black. And look, there is the fireplace!

Oooh and aaah!
Eric wants the TV above the fireplace, I want it on the wall to the left… The ‘E’s mark eyeball recessed lights.

The HVAC rough-in was happening as we were there. The floor registers were in place and they were working on the air returns. air return

These are in the wall between the office and the corridor leading past the great room. The corner of the media closet is in the upper right.

The ‘R’ on the floor marks a recessed light location.
